I have to drop my son off for a drumline competition this morning, and I will be going to see them perform this afternoon. In the meantime, I think I may do some light wrenching on my cars. I do need to wash the Sunchaser, so maybe I will do that first for the ride across town to the competition.

Toby and Pumpkin have been bonding of late. She has suddenly decided she likes him.

I am considering opening up some more parking, and area for wrenching. The T Bird is parked on the other side of the fence. If I replace this decrepit fence with a gate, I can pull another car back here to work on.

I can definitely park another car here. If I tear out the pond, I could fit two.

Kinja'd!!!

Toby thinks this is all very dull.

Kinja'd!!!

I still have plenty of useable space in the yard.

Do I want to keep this? As my car projects have grown, this hobby has been neglected. What do you do with big fish?

I vote for the fence -> gate conversion followed by a tile/pond -> Concrete conversion for maximum car-space. Low cost and high gains!

As for what to do with the fish... craigslist? Snack for Toby and/or you (I see a grill)? Put them in the pool and act shocked when they die?

Disclaimer: My long term plans involve extending my garage and taking up half the back yard with it, if I live here long enough.

I completely agree with adding a gate so you can bring cars back. Having a little extra room to work is always a blessing. If you feel like the pond has come to an end where it’s more of a chore as opposed to a hobby anymore it should go as well. Why spend your limited free time keeping up something that you get no joy from that is basically just taking up space. Even if you don’t use it for more vehicle work the extra open space would be more greatly appreciated than a pond that you don’t want to mess with.

I can’t imagine it will be hard to find good homes for the koi. Given how valuable they can be maybe you can find a way to sell them to help pay for parts for the T-bird.

We’re planning to negotiate with the real estate agent we rent from to see if we can purchase the house where we currently live. I know he had it for sale for two years before renting it out; so I have no doubt he’ll be willing. It’s just a matter of seeing if we can make the financials work. The best part for me is there’s a large garage at the back of the property that he currently rents bays from for people for storage that would come with the purchase that I would love to get my hands on.

Move the pond to the other side of the yard, thus cars and pond!
